Read the small print before buying dish-washing detergents. Many still contain phosphates to make detergent more effective, but in turn cause algae bloom when they drain into lakes and rivers after usage. Basically algae consume the phosphates, reproduce and die then become food for microorganisms which then strip much-needed oxygen from the water. The water table lowers until it eventually dries up. Watch out for some phosphate substitutes which are not biodegradable.
