What you put down the drain ends up in your local water supply. A great way to prevent that is to install a strainer that catches hair and other debris so your pipes don't clog. But if they do, don't resort to toxic chemicals. Packing the drain with baking soda followed by boiling water (repeat as necessary) will take care of almost all clogs.
